Dramaturgy in a narration builds on grand and glamorous, gripping and grotesque illustration, draws on moments of tickling thrill and vague but pleasing bliss, relies on a climax reached, a turning point met, a resolution anticipated or unforeseen. It's storytelling at its finest, one that captivates its audience and captures their imagination, sudden and fully, fast. In a song you will find compelling preludes, clangorous gravity, anthemic choruses and surging crescendos instead – it's where sonic suspense adds to evocative storytelling through a shockingly adventurous still invitingly intimate setup. Re-worked in frames, it's the elusive expressivity of visuals that epitomize and emphasize the depth and scope of tonal tales told, cultivating, completing a cohesive compositional picture meant to entertain all senses vital for beholding the beauty of an artistic opus. And that's exactly what Ellysse Mason achieved with her scenic music video for alluring single 'Hunt Me Down'; it's an appealing and staggering blend of melodies, motion and emotion. Opened with a sequence of poignantly captivating and teasingly tense impressions in an unknown setting, following an ominous, early on enthralling storyline, a sense of vulnerability and disorientation is conveyed, strong enough to reach and take a hold of you immediately. A fate in abeyance pictured, darkened, at risk to be doomed; a faint feeling of solitude and security mirrored in the idyllic and arcane environment you set foot in. Silence then, a mute but strikingly frantic scream into the endless expanse of a mystically remote forest; facial expressions of unrest and despair that stir and shake. A sharp cut in the flesh (figuratively) a flash. Alien but attracting, otherworldly rituals held, the desperate hope of salvation raised and ultimately shattered. Nerve-wracking tension almost achingly palpable, a stirring rush prey must feel when facing its predator, all highlighted with hauntingly ethereal melodies, enticingly quaint harmonies and episodic percussions - a restless and forceful pulse present - atmospherically soaring once, falling back to a luringly accentuated rhythm next. Ellysse's warm and mellow voice plays its part in this dramatic performance with the characteristic delicacy and grace of the hunted, moves, excites and rises to its soulfully sonorous summit, only to carry on with tender vocal spells again, allowing visual imprints to speak for themselves through sinister stimuli here to resonate with us a while longer.
