Veteran Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, the New NFDC Chairperson

Known for his classics like Sholay, Seeta aur Geeta, Andaz and Shakti, the Veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy has been appointed the new Chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).

An Information and Broadcasting Ministry source told IANS “Yes, Mr. Sippy has been appointed the new chairperson of NFDC. The order came out on Monday i.e., 17th January, 2012”.

The 65 year old Bollywood director who has been a part of the Hindi film industry for four decades replaces veteran actor Om Puri.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has also appointed Jawahar Wattal and Odiya Cinematographer A K Bir as independent directors.

NFDC is established to encourage the good cinema movement in the country. The main aim of the NFDC is to plan, promote and organize an integrated and efficient development of the Indian film industry and foster excellence in cinema.
