Vehicle Tracking Catches Employee in a Big Lie

Posted on the 27 March 2013 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

This story was recently submitted to Fleetmatics Customer Connect by George Zaino of Maximum Transportation:

When Zaino first got his vehicles outfitted with the Fleetmatics vehicle tracking system, he was just looking to monitor his fleet. Now, he doesn’t know what he would do without it. “I don’t know what I did before I found Fleetmatics,” he says. “Well actually, I do know. I was lied to and stolen from. And I had no way to prove it! Now, I never have to worry about that again.”

A few months after installing the system, Zaino and his operations manager were at the office when he received a Fleetmatics email alert letting him know that one of his employees had started up a vehicle. He noticed that the employee was supposed to be off work that day, so the fact that he was using the vehicle on his day off set off a red flag for Zaino. They watched the Live Fleet wide-eyed as the employee drove 50 miles to another state, stopped for 15 minutes, and then drove another 60 miles to Logan Airport in Boston, MA. Then the employee drove another 20 miles back to his house. The strange thing to Zaino was that the employee knew that the vehicle had fleet tracking installed.

He called the employee into his office and when he arrived, Zaino asked him what he had done that day. To Zaino’s surprise, the employee said he had driven his girlfriend to a doctor’s appointment about a mile away from his house. Interesting…
