The release of Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires of the City was recently pushed back to May 14th, but that isn’t the only sad news coming from the peppy indie rock prepsters. Apparently, car aficionados far and wide are fuming over the torching of a Saab in the video for “Diane Young.” So much so that Ezra Koenig (who’s recently adopted a vaguely Elvis vocal style) was forced to release a statement proclaiming his respect and admiration for all things automobile. Hopefully this bad bit of press– no matter how silly it may be– won’t affect the single’s success. Like everything Vampire Weekend does, the song is insanely catchy, and we wouldn’t want that car to have died in vain, now, would we?
