What Are The Secrets Of A Perfect Sounding Electric Guitar?

Posted on the 21 July 2016 by Audiocred @audiocred

Everyone knows that the electric guitar changed the way we enjoy music forever. First invented in the 1930s, they became mainstream from the mid-1950s. Today, a lot of music that we hear contains some amazing riffs and sounds from an electric guitar.

It’s likely you are reading this because you’d like to recreate some of those sounds yourself. The thing is, how can you create “the” perfect electric guitar? Well, building one yourself is probably taking things a step too far.

But, you can take some steps to choosing the right one for you and the components that it contains. Here are the secrets to having the perfect electric guitar:

Decide which style of electric guitar you’d like

You can’t just walk into a music store and tell the workers there that you’d like to buy an electric guitar. That’s because they need to know more about the style of guitar you like. It’s a bit like going to an auto dealership and telling the salesperson you want to buy a car. You need to specify what it is you want!

There are five main styles you can get. They are:

  • Solid-body;
  • Chambered-body;
  • Semi-acoustic;
  • Full hollow-body; and
  • Electric acoustic.

To further complicate things, there are many string, bridge and neck variants you can buy too! Confused about which one is right for you? Don’t worry; you’re not alone! One way to help you narrow down your choice is to listen to the different types getting played.

You just need to bear in mind that it’s not so much the look of the guitar you’re interested in but the sound. The latter is important if you wish to recreate the sounds from your favorite musicians!

Choose a reputable brand

Okay, so you’ve decided which style of electric guitar you need. The next step is to select one from a reputable brand. The thing about electric guitars is that build quality varies between luthiers. It’s common knowledge that cheaper models don’t have a brilliant build quality.

With that in mind, I recommend taking some time to research brands that fit your price range. Of course, if money’s no object, you could opt for the guitar your favorite musician uses.

For example, let’s say that you’re a big fan of Carlos Santana. As you may know, he has a love for Paul Reed Smith electric guitars. Knowing that information, you could check out sites like briansguitars.com for PRS guitars.

Before you hand over any cash, I always recommend that you PLAY the guitar first. After all, you wouldn’t buy a car without taking it out for a test drive first. Nor would you buy a house without seeing what it’s like beforehand!

Experiment with different preamp tubes

Now that you’ve got the guitar of your dreams in your possession, the next step is to have some fun! Sure, you could get stuck into playing your favorite tunes. But, you should always experiment with various guitar settings to achieve the perfect sound.

Another thing you should also experiment with is different preamp tubes. They don’t just make your guitar louder. They add a certain style to the sound of your music!
