Used Up #1

By Nina B @newshoesintown

Here we go - my very first empties /used up products' video. The video is quite long so I've detailed the products in this post. I find the best reviews come from these kind of videos, and that's down to the fact that those products weren't recalled and the reviewer has had enough time to form an opinion on the thing. One rookie mistake I made here was reviewing something I finished a long time ago - not being able to remember exactly why I didn't like it.

1. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair
This was my first bottle of the stuff and I would gladly buy this again solely for LOLs I got out of the product placement in that Tom Ford shoot scene in Mademoiselle C.

2. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

A touch pricey but this sample made me want to purchase the full size jar. Will I? Won't I? You'll see an haul if I do.

3. Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron

This was impressive when it was shiny and new but I realised there are other products that do the same job and are less sticky. Right now, that's my fast absorbing Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. I lumped Hydraluron in the 'repurchase category' because I like what Indeed Labs stand for (modest packaging and prices) plus it's widely available in New Zealand - from your local Farmers or chemist.

4. Neutrogena Healthy Defense Moisturizer SPF50

Does what it says on the tube and doesn't mess with makeup.

5. Skinfood Nourishing Moisturizer

Again, does what it says on the tube. This one is available from local supermarkets and even The Warehouse (where everyone gets a bargain).

6. Bioderma Sensibio H20

I ran out of this and ended up using olive oil to remove some extremely thick black liquid liner. It was awful. A new bottle (sensitive version) is on its way.

7. Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Fluid Makeup

I'd buy this again if Mecca Cosmetica didn't drop their prices. Next on my 'base wishlist' is that Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer

8. Chanel - Ecriture de Chanel eyeliner in Noir

Slightly on the pricier side of things and best bought when someone is going through duty free.

9. Lancome  Hypnose Doll Eyes

Hands down the best smelling mascara I have ever tried.

10. NARS Skin Balancing Lotion

Contains alcohol and has a pretty useless (read: wasteful) dispensing pump. Save your money and buy the Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner instead.

11. Emma Hardie Amazing Moringa Cleansing Balm

Good but gritty and not as buttery as the:

12. Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm (mentioned not shown)

Locally, you can get this from World Beauty or if you want to stock up you can get the salon size tub from Strawberry Net. Wow, you'd never have to film an empties video if you bought salon size everything.

13. Shiseido The Skincare Night Moisture Recharge

Forgettable.

14. Sukin Purifying Body Scrub

I don't know what crushed walnut shells are meant to do for my skin but this didn't leave me feeling soft and smooth.

15. MAC Brow Pencil in Spiked

I've bought this at least twice, maybe this one was the third and definitely last. MAC bores me in the brow department but there's nothing quite like Espresso eyeshadow applied with a 266 brush. Let me know in the comments what your fave MAC brow product is.

16. Eyeko Eye Do Mascara

Sadly, this once featured in a monthly favourites video. I get overly excited every time I don't buy Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (this is as classic as Cindy Crawford's mole so don't you tell me I'm old). This felt like an upgrade from my usual fill-your-bucket-at-the-dodgy-cosmetic-perfume-and-cosmetics-sale so I was glad when this was part of the Alexa Chung x Eyeko collection. This smudged like crazy though- maybe the formula is to blame?
