US student Olivia Culpo won Miss Universe 2012 title
Vanquishing dozens of contestants from across the globe, an American university student Olivia Culpo won Miss Universe 2012 title, bringing the crown back to America after more than a decade. The first runner-up title went to Philippines contestant, Janine Tugonon.
Last year’s champion Leila Lopes of Angola, crowned Olivia Culpo, 20, Wednesday night at the Planet Hollywood casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero, managed to get second runner-up title while the fourth and fifth titles went to Miss Australia Renae Ayris, and Miss Brazil, Gabriela Markus respecively. The title Miss Congeniality was presented to Miss Guatemala Laura Godoy by the participants.
The Miss Universe 2012 marked the 61st version of beauty pageant and it held in Las Vegas, wherein 89 contestants took part. Last year the pageant was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
It’s worth mentioning here that America claimed the title last time in year 1997 when Brook Lee was crowned Miss Universe.
