It was by accident that I chanced upon the Personal Microderm. I never have time to go out for a facial anymore so I was searching the Philosophy website for microderm abrasion treatments that I can do at home. Not sure exactly how I saw the ad for Personal Microderm but there it was.
After reading through their site and combing Google for reviews on the product, I was hooked. I immediately placed an order, albeit nervous about the customs tax that I was sure would be exorbitant.
The checkout process was smooth and I used a promo code from a blogger that gave me 20% off. Aside from adding some blue discs which I am sure would be difficult to buy here in the PI, I also paid for shipping at $35. A receipt for my order was sent via email just a couple of minutes after I paid.
And now the wait.
About 2 weeks had passed and I was getting a little iffy that I hadn’t heard a thing from them so I asked my sister in Chi-town to give them a call. She was told that I would hear from the local post office in a couple of days.
I got the notice the next day! It was the weekend so I had to wait the following Monday to claim it. I was excited but at the same time really concerned about the tax. My sister had sent some new clothes for my Mom last year and we had to pay about Php 4k customs tax. My calculation for this purchase was about this amount.
We were at the old and decrepit post office in QC at past ten in the morning and there was a short queue at Window 37 to claim parcels. Within a few minutes, I was paying the Php 100 postage and then my name was being called by the customs officer who examined my box. He looked at the contents and handed me the box.
And that was it!!! All it took was Php 100 and I had my purple Personal Microderm.
What is Personal Microderm?
The Personal Microderm is a revolutionary at-home skincare tool that provides the same brilliant results as professional, in-office microdermabrasion treatments. By combining the power of exfoliation with a unique vacuum suction, the Personal Microderm works to remove the dead, dull skin cell barrier, increase blood flow, and stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.

The patented spinning disc exfoliates dead skin cells and the vacuum suction pulls the blood flow to the surface of the skin for increased blood flow and circulation. This triggers the skin’s healing process, which builds elastin and collagen making the skin firm and radiant.
What’s in the box?
You get the PMD wand with ac adaptor, discs and suction cups, DVD and quick start guide and warranty card. I also got extra blue replacement discs and they included 2 free packets of cleanser and moisturizer.
It’s imperative to watch their video instruction whether on the DVD or at their website to ensure that you’re using the contraption correctly. I’ve read a few reviews in which users complain that their skin became very red and got inflamed – PMD did warn about this due to misuse. Note that the PMD can be used on the face and the body.
I washed my face thoroughly with Cetaphil and made sure it was really dry by first patting it with facial tissue and leaving it for a couple of minutes. Using the white disc, I then tested the the PMD first on the inside of my forearm, and then the side of my neck to see how my skin would react. So far, so good.
On my face, I then glided the wand below my mouth without hovering and made sure to cover everything in just one go, except the areas around the eyes that are very sensitive. I saw that the areas where the suction went were red at first like a welt, but it quickly went away. It only took a few minutes and then I applied toner and moisturizer. My skin feels so smooth! And it’s only my first try so I’m really looking forward to its effects after several uses. They recommend waiting 6-7 days between treatments to allow the skin to recover.
Why did I get PMD? For its price, you actually save a lot of money from facial treatments and you can do it on your own time in the privacy of your home. I don’t feel any side effects, or tingling, although I do feel that some parts of my face are a little itchy. I believe the blood vessels are very active right now while my skin regenerates. Gotta love science!
