Turn Unused Spaces into Storage

Turn unused spaces into storage

You know what they say “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” but are you one of those people that just can’t part with your stuff? Do you need a way to keep hold of your prized possessions without them cluttering your home? Well, here are some great tips that can turn those unused spaces into valuable storage.

Kitchen

The kitchen is a good place to start as it’s one of the easier rooms to de-clutter, so it’ll ease you in. Although most new kitchen designs do have excellent storage solutions, such as carousel cupboards, deep drawers and so on, work surfaces are still prone to clutter.

Your kitchen will immediately look untidy if the sponges and washing up liquid are left lying around. Attach a utensil holder to the inside of the under-sink unit door to hold these odds and ends out of sight.

There will always be something sat on the kitchen side so have a couple of baskets or tins handy to stash stuff away and prevent it looking overcrowded.

Dining room

How often is your dining room actually used for eating? If your household is like the majority of the UK then probably only for special occasions. Dining rooms often become a second living area or an office. This makes them great for storage.

Make sure your dining room doesn’t just become a dumping ground by organising your storage in sideboards & display cabinets – you might as well make the most of the space. If it is a multi-purpose room, get furniture that can open up when needed, but remain tucked away when not in use.

Living room

Last, but by no means least, is probably the hardest room of all – the living room! There is so much going on in the main living room, that it often becomes filled with stuff. Whether it’s DVDs and magazines or toys and shoes, it’s easy for your things to get a little out of control.

Home entertainment systems and TV stands often have plenty of built in storage so make sure you utilise it. Remote controls can be an absolute nightmare, so set aside a drawer to keep them hidden from view. It’s also worth looking into footrests or coffee tables that double up as storage.

Although you might not want to live in a show home, it’s easy for our clutter to take over and prevent us from enjoying our homes. Keep your home tidy by making the most of unused space.
