We all knew Joe Manganiello (who plays werewolf, Alcide Herveaux, in HBO’s True Blood) would be perfect as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams’ classic stage production, A Streetcar Named Desire. What we didn’t know was how great his is at staying in character AND keeping the audience in line!
It seemed an overzealous fan repeatedly took snapshots of the Yale Repertory Theater cast during the first act. During the intermission, an announcement was made requesting no flash photography. Joe also tweeted about the distraction (broken up into two separate tweets):
Dear person taking pictures during our show tonight … The ushers are going to be looking for you and you will be thrown out … you are insanely distracting to all of the actors onstage and incredibly rude. If you read this, please leave and don’t come back.
Still, the fan persisted. During the second half of the performance, after the camera started up again, Joe Manganiello took matters once more into his own hands. During a scene with Stella (played by Sarah Sokolovic), while remaining in character, he announced during the third act:
Can you stop with the camera? You have no idea how distractin’ it is!
After the performance, Manganiello backed his stance up with a final tweet:
I’m happy to take pics outside after the show and @yalerep posted some fantastic shots of the play that they took. Please be respectful.
Here’s hoping the message got through and there will be no more distractions during the remaining performances!
