True Blood’s EP and Writer on Sookie’s First Love

Vampire King Bill ComptonExecutive producer and writer of HBO’s True Blood, Alexander Woo, explained that Sookie Stackhouse’s first love, vampire king Bill Compton, was very recent and was also very, very deep. But now, Sookie seems to be falling in love with Eric Northman. Now the old Eric is back, memory and all. So what does this mean for the love triangle involving Sookie, Eric, and Bill?

On the choice to return Eric’s memory, Woo said:

“It felt like a good time because Sookie and Eric have gotten as close as… well, probably as they can get in this short period of time. This was the time for this roadblock where he [Eric] gets his identity back. And the fun of it for the viewer, I hope, is to see how that affects the relationship they had established while he didn’t have his memory.”

Woo said Alexander Skarsgård did an extraordinary job of conveying Eric’s sadness as a result of his memory returning because we got to see Eric at his core, the kind of humanity that Sookie fell for. Not only will the return of Eric’s memory affect his relationship with Sookie, but also his relationship with Pam.

On the changes that we have seen in Bill this season, Woo said:

“We wanted to show how he [Bill] has changed with this mantle of being the king of Louisiana. There are certainly a lot of responsibilities, so we thought it would certainly be fun to watch… interesting, and he seemed to be really good at it. But he has this gift. Part of it, I’m sure, comes from when we’ve seen Bill be charming, and so wonderful and so delightful. It reminds Sookie of why she was drawn to him in the first place.”

Woo adds that even though there are all of these things that have happened in the interim in the four years of the show or the four seasons since Bill and Sookie first met, we have to remember that it has really only been little over a year in their world. Sookie and Bill didn’t meet all that long ago. Bill doesn’t have to be Sookie’s lover, but he will always be a big part of her life.
