Trendy architecture is one of the latest Italian designers‘s passions. In the beginning there were luxury bars where you could take aperitifs or participate in exclusive parties – just think about Armani café or the Just Cavalli; then they have become hotels like the Bulgari one; theaters to host fashion shows and events, always following a King George’s idea and finally exhibition spaces with a very contemporary character and personality, typical of the radical intellectual world who is so loved by the fanatics of fashion, art and design
Fondazione Prada – opened almost two months ago in Milan and it has already become one of the most used hastagh for curious and people who go there just to tag themselves. In Milan, even just for 24 hours it was impossible to miss the opportunity to visit it. Located in the South part of the city, it has one of those gray painted walls, decorated only by the neon signs with all the information – as the terminal of a station or an airport. What stroke me, once entered, was the back wall with the word Prada Foundation writing and the golden tower. The vertical container of contemporary art.
“Old and new, horizontal and vertical, wide, narrow, black and white, open and closed: these contrasts determine the variety of challenges that describes the nature of the new Foundation.” – Says Rem Koolhaas, the architect of OMA that has often worked with PradaThis open architecture – open to the changes, planning and creativity – has also a bar with a vintage and 50’s flavour, completed with pinball and retrò counters. But, if I have to say which is the aspect that most surprised and conquered me, it was the feeling that this building is designed to live in In the large courtyard, four green metal chairs are located, in an apparently random way under two thick foliage trees, where everybody can sit and entertain. So this architecture a bit ‘brutalist and with a contemporary and minimalist taste – like a Prada’ suit – become friendly in the way it relates to the visitor.
