Traveling as a Couple: Her Perspective

By Livingthedreamrtw @livingdreamrtw
Traveling as a Couple: Her Perspective Today's post is the second in a two-part series about our perspectives of the perks and challenges as traveling together as a couple. Jeremy recently weighed in on the pros and cons of traveling with a significant other (me!), so it's only fair that I get to respond with the pros and cons of traveling with him. Here are the major pluses and minuses that I have experienced on our adventures together up until now.
Pro: Traveling with an Experienced Adventurer
Traveling as a Couple: Her Perspective
Jeremy has had much more international travel experience than me, and this generally works out great for me. He loves social networking with other travel bloggers to find all the best sights to see in any particular city. He's also great at planning travel routes and estimating budgets- things I have little experience with and am grateful to have him around to take care of! As Jeremy mentioned in his post, I am all about planning the food to eat everywhere we go, but I am happy to leave most everything else to his expertise.
Con: Traveling with a Detail-Oriented Perfectionist
Don't get me wrong, Jeremy would probably describe ME as a detail-oriented perfectionist as well. But in particular, I'm thinking of our honeymoon and how I wanted to take it easy and relax, but he kept listing out all the things we should do. I appreciate that he likes to plan things, as I do like to have a plan, but constantly thinking about what you're going to do next makes it hard to enjoy what you're doing in that moment. In his defense, we were on a relatively short, two-week honeymoon where we had a pretty strict schedule to follow; perhaps on a longer, more relaxed trip Jeremy wouldn't be so intense about planning out our schedule.
Pro: The Extra Security of Traveling with a Male
Although we haven't been to too many places where I felt unsafe, it's always nice to travel with a male to avoid unwanted attention from other males and to deter shady people.

Pro: Being Pushed to Try New Things
I'm pretty sure there's nothing Jeremy wouldn't eat and no weird or unsafe activity that Jeremy wouldn't try. He's been scuba diving, paragliding, and eaten tasty things like silkworms and chicken embryo. Consequently, he thinks that everyone else should eat these foods and do these things, too. He has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone during our travels and opened my eyes to the wonders of the world.
Con: Being Pushed to Try New Things
Traveling as a Couple: Her Perspective
Jeremy doesn't take 'no' for an answer. Although I tried scuba diving in a little pool when we were in Thailand and was absolutely terrified, Jeremy is still on a quest to get me scuba certified. I love getting pushed to try new things, but when I tell him no I wish he would just let it rest.
