Travel Destination: Florida

By Simon Hales @itertrav

Florida! The very name falls tropically off the tongue, conjuring images of lush palm trees waving over white sand beaches and the sound of the lapping surf. With its trademark white sand beaches and warm waters, Florida boasts approximately 1,200 miles of coastline. If your travel destination is further south, keep in mind, the weather will be warmer and more tropical than it is in central or north Florida. Also note, the water on the Gulf side is warmer and calmer than on the Atlantic side.

To many, the name of this travel destination Florida conjures up thoughts of outrageous fun at the world’s best loved theme parks where the rides leave you screaming for more. Others will enjoy leisurely strolls through fascinating ethnic neighborhoods such as lively Ybor City in Tampa. Ybor City is Tampa’s Latin section and has an exotic blend of sights, sounds, flavors and aromas.

As you meander through the winding back roads, you’ll find many lovingly restored small towns that hug the shore or nestle further inland among the Spanish moss covered trees, surrounded by the fragrant orange groves.

Shoppers will delight at the unique stores offering one-of-a-kind treasures. There are malls scattered throughout the state to enthrall shoppers from all over the globe.

For those with more active interests, this travel destination offers the best canoe trails, unrivaled salt and fresh water fishing and more golf and tennis facilities than anywhere else in the United States. (Florida is called “the fishing capital of the world”.)

Throughout the state you will find baronial mansions such as the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. There are still some splendid hotels from the days when only the very wealthy could afford to come to this magical place.

Florida is the home of the perfect vacation and summer time is the perfect time to visit.
