Transferring Contacts from BlackBerry to Android

Posted on the 23 May 2012 by Telecolumnist @tele_columnist

Now this is the challenge I recently faced after purchasing a new Android Phone. So researched quiet a lot to understand how to migrate my contacts fromBlackBerry to Android. The First step to solve this issue is to take backup of your BlackBerry phone specially contacts, because anyways you don’t like to loose all your contacts due to any mishap in this process.

Here after the backup the next step is to look for a link in your BlackBerry Browser (I want you to visit via default blackberry Browser only as you need to install an application) http://m.google.com/sync and let the site now select option at the bottom of the page named as Sync with Mobile Devices here in this option let the site detect your Device as BlackBerry (It may happen that site fails to recognize your device refresh the page and try again).

In next page select the download application named as Google Sync for BlackBerry Smart Phones and complete the installation procedure as usual on your BlackBerry. Allow the Google Sync Application as Trusted application.

Post Installation procedure open the application and press BlackBerry Button(which opens a menu normally at any page) look for an option which saysSync Now. (The transfer of contacts may attract some data charges which is quiet nominal which I believe is acceptable as your contacts are quiet important for you to be transferred to your new phone). Select option of sync contacts (Sync Calendar I keep here as optional as it completely depends on your requirement if you want to sync calendar as well select calendar as well). Now it asks for the Google account to which you want to sync the contacts to.

Here I want to highlight a catch, you should have a Gmail Account for the sync to happen(I suppose that you have one if not please visit Gmail and create one).

The sync process is now complete in your BlackBerry Device.

The job of BlackBerry Handset is done now, Now press the Menu Button in your Android Phone and select option which says Account and Sync now click on Add account to sync. Here select the Option named as Google. Here the next page will ask for the user name password and authorization. And here your contacts are in Android Phone(Again you should have access of Data and some data charges may apply depending on your Mobile Operator).
