Toy Tuesday: Organic Lovies/Security Blankets for Baby

A "lovie" or security blanket is something that can be very beneficial to your little one in many ways. When baby forms an attachment to her lovie, it can help make stressful transitions easier, such as when you need to leave her with a babysitter or drop her off at daycare, go to the doctor, or put her down for a nap. A lovie will give baby added security without mom or dad being there all the time. Also, if you give baby the lovie at bed-time, she will begin to associate it with sleep. It will help her sleep better throughout the night as she will be able to self soothe and feel secure with her lovie.

Guidelines for Introducing a LovieSix to twelve months of age is an appropriate time to begin introducing a security item to baby. When you are choosing an item make certain it is baby safe. Next, keep the security blanket close to you before giving it to baby so it takes on your scent. Then, start by introducing it at daily nap-times and eventually incorporating into bed-time as well. You will want to name the lovie so baby recognizes it. Additionally, it is important to make sure you have extra of whatever the item may be in case something ever happens to it!
