This week's topic discusses series that you have not finished for one reason or another. This event is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
I really enjoy series. I like revisiting favorite characters and not having to learn a new world. As much as I love reading, I hate starting new books, so series are perfect for me. But there are some series out there that should have been stand alone books. And there are some series out there that just didn't capture my interest. Most series I'll give the first two books a try, but sometimes, the first one falls so flat that I never even make it to book #2.
1. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Nora made me crazy. I spent the entire book yelling at her. At one point I actually hoped she would be killed off.
2. Matched by Ally Condie. I actually really enjoyed Matched, but Crossed was really boring - to the point I didn't finish it. I also read it at the same time I read Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver and I just liked Oliver's concept and series so much better.
3. Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. I really liked this book, but wasn't really prepared for it to be a series. I really just wanted a stand alone. I may finish this series at some point, but I doubt it.
4. Fallen by Lauren Kate. This series just didn't capture my interest. I read the first two and never really cared about Luce or her friends.
5. Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller. This series was just bad. I barely got through the first book. There was no way I was putting myself through any more.
6. Summer Series by Jenny Han. I'm honestly not sure why I haven't read the rest of these. I guess I don't usually think of contemporaries being series. Or at least I don't go looking in contemporary for a series. Since the first one is a complete story I just never really cared what else happens.
7. The Immortals by Alyson Noel. I think this was just aimed at a younger audience than I was reading at the time. I enjoyed the books okay, but they all sort of bled together and I lost interest.
8. Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Honestly, these books are just too damn long. They're beautifully written and well crafted. I enjoy the topic/genre, but whew, they're a commitment.
9. The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa. This was my first attempt at a fey series and it just didn't work for me. I read Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series and fell in love though, so I may come back to this one - especially given how much everyone raves about this series.
10. Firelight by Sophie Jordan. The cliff-hanger ending pissed me off. Honestly, I'm getting really picky about the endings in first books. Don't cliff-hanger me. Leave things unresolved. Leave the big bad out there. Cliff-hanger book #2, but if you do it in book one you better have written the best damn book ever because forcing me to read book #2 to find out what happened - not cool. This isn't the only series that does this. This just happens to be the one that pushed me over the edge and enraged me.

The Mortal Instruments by Casandra Clare (I haven't read the new ones. I read the original 3)
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
Graceling by Kristen Cashore (loved Graceling, just haven't made time for the other books yet)
