2. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion - Don Tillman isn't the easiest person. But he has friends around him who help to both push him into and protect him from the world.
3. The Outsiders by SE Hinton - Probably one of the most intense, deep-running friendship stories out there. Not only the friendship between Johnny and Ponyboy, but between all of the greasers, who unite to protect one another against the world that judges them and marginalizes them.

5. The Cay by Taylor Theodore - This heartbreaking book took me months to get over when I first read it.
6. Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin - I can't remember what happens in which book, but at the end of the day the friendships that develop between these roommates - all with their own issues and secrets - become stronger than family. And I like the idea of creating family for yourself.

9. 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff - This pen-pal friendship between two book lovers, separated as they are by the Atlantic ocean, is one I found moving and just... so sweet.
10. Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith - It takes a lot to stay friends with someone you're in love with who kind of likes you but also can't stop thinking about having sex with his girlfriend. Robby is a pretty amazing friend.
