This week's Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is all about the future. The future of book releases in 2014, that is. Let's see what I can come up with (in no particular order except my memory)!
1. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare - Expected release date: May 27, 2014
I haven't yet read the 5th book, so I plan to read the two back to back. To be totally honest, I'm kind of over this series. Clary and Jace just annoy me and I feel like the story isn't moving fast enough in a direction I care about. But I got 4 books in, so I might as well finish it, right? And there's always a chance that the final book will turn things around. (On Goodreads here.)
2. Landline by Rainbow Rowell - Expected release date: July 8, 2014
I love Rainbow Rowell. Her writing has this evocative quality to it that sneaks up on you as you read and causes reactions like this:

3. The Shadow Cabinet by Maureen Johnson - Expected release date: 2014
I ate up the first two books in the Shades of London series in about a week and a half. I am really, really anxious to get my hands on #3! (On Goodreads here.)
4. The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick - Expected release date: February 11, 2014
I'm quickly becoming a die-hard fan of Matthew Quick's. I loved The Silver Linings Playbook, which I thought was beautifully written and incredibly human and heartwarming. I've started Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and though the subject matter is intense, the writing is exceptional so far. I think he's going to be one of those authors whose books I buy without even reading the description. (On Goodreads here.)
5. The Raven Cycle #3 by Maggie Stiefvater - Expected release date: 2014
I'm just finishing the first book in this series, and I know I'll need the next one right away. And the one after that. And the one after that. I think there are going to be 5 books in total, which is going to make the waiting unbearable! But worth it. (On Goodreads here.)
6. Unremembered by Jessica Brody - Expected release date: Already released, but waiting for PB
I don't normally go for amnesia stories, but this one caught my attention because of the circumstances surrounding it. This is the story of a girl who is found, miraculously unharmed, floating amidst the wreckage of a plane that crashed into the ocean. She has no idea how she got there, or even who she is or where she came from. I just need to know. (On Goodreads here.)
7. Nobody by Jennifer Lynn Barnes - Expected release date: January 22, 2014
I really enjoyed The Naturals, so this one crept onto my reading list for next year as well. While The Naturals series focuses on those with exceptional gifts of observation and pattern recognition, this one focuses on young people who are recruited and trained to be assassins. I'm already hooked. (On Goodreads here.)
I'm also looking forward to the second book in The Naturals series, but I'm not entirely sure when it's coming out!
8. Warm Bodies #2 by Isaac Marion - Expected release date: 2014
I haven't actually read the first book yet (I'm saving it for next Halloween), but I LOVED the movie, so I just know I'm going to enjoy it. Even better if, when I get through the first one, there's a second one I can grab right off the shelf. (On Goodreads here.)
9. Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira - Expected release date: April 1, 2014
I'm fascinated by the premise of this book. I've always had a thing for reading books that are someone's journal or letters. Something about the intimacy of it, about being in someone's head and getting to share the thoughts they reserve for themselves that makes it feel like you get to know the character more. In this book the main character, Laurel, has to write a letter to a dead musician for a school assignment. But she starts writing to more and more of them - about everything in her life. It becomes, essentially, her way of keeping a journal. I'm looking forward to this one. (On Goodreads here.) 10. Untitled description-less book by John Green
