I thought I would start a new series of kindle book posts, I am pretty much glued to my kindle since Christmas day so I thought I should share with you some of the books I’ve discovered. I am a bit of a scrooge and don’t really like to pay for my kindle books, mainly because I devour them quickly, so the cheaper the better.
Today I thought I would share with you my top 5 Young Adult kindle books which are under £5 to download. If you don’t like reading on e-readers then I will also include a link to a printed version so that you can buy a copy.
1. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead | Kindle | Printed | Bloodlines is set in the same world as Vampire Academy and I believe it is a spin off series. I have never read Vampire Academy and so this was my first trip into a world of Moroi and Strigoi vampires, along with Dhampir who are half human half vampire, and then there’s the Alchemists plus your regular humans. As someone coming from outside of the Vampire Academy fanship, you can definitely read this without knowing anything of the world, there are references to the Vampire Academy series but you don’t need to have read them. Bloodlines follows 18 year old Sydney an Alchemist, and her job is to protect the humans from vampires and to help make sure vampires aren’t discovered. Sydney isn’t in the good books of the alchemists she sort of messed up on her last mission, she has to fight to get on this mission otherwise they are going to send her younger sister. She also wants to prove that she is a good alchemist and that they can trust her.
2. The Maze Runner by James Dashner | Kindle | Printed | I didn’t expect to enjoy this, but I knew the film would be coming out this year and wanted to give it a read first. Thomas is sent to the Maze but doesn’t have any memories of why he’s there or of his life before going into the maze. The maze is being controlled by someone outside of the maze, each week they get food deliveries and the delivery of a new person. No one knows why they are in the maze or what they are supposed to do, but they have made it their mission to find a way out. I found that elements of the book remind me of The Hunger Games, being controlled by someone outside of your reality, but it does hold its own and is still different to any other books i’ve read.
3. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins | Kindle | Printed | Anna and the French Kiss is what I call a palette cleanser, it’s a book which is quick and easy to read, but you can still enjoy a good story line. Anna is sent to boarding school in Paris by her parents and she isn’t happy, she has to leave her best friend behind along with a fledgling romance. How many of us wish we’d been to boarding school, and here Anna is moaning because not only is she going to boarding school she’s only going to bloody Paris! Don’t worry poor, poor, Anna makes friends at boarding school and is introduced to St. Clair who is just the perfect guy, and better than that he’s dating a college girl! You know how the book is going to pan out from the beginning, but that doesn’t matter because it’s exactly what you’re choosing the book for.
4. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell | Kindle | Printed | I did a full review of Fangirl here but basically Cath and her twin sister Wren are off to college, but things don’t quite go to plan for Cath as she discovers that Wren doesn’t want to room with her. Wren wants to go off and live college life to the full, while Cath wants to stay in her room on her laptop writing Simon Snow fanfiction. Again this is another book which is pretty predictable but it does have mentions of mental health, and is set in our world rather than the fictional ones where vampires exist among humans, or where people will put you in a maze.
5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor | Kindle | Printed | Karou is living in two world, she’s living in Prague as a 17 year old art student but is working for a ‘monster’ who belongs in another world. The ‘monster’ Brimstone is the closest thing she has to family he has been her guardian ever since she was little, however he doesn’t like her to know much about the other world but soon she has no choice but to become involved with it. I really enjoyed this book when I first read it and I want to reread it, I’m partway through the second book but I put it down so long ago that I need to revisit the story from the beginning.
