By Arzoo Sharma @prettynhealthy

Hi Everyone,

I get a lot of mails from girls with oily skin asking them to suggest some tips and products for their oily skin so I thought I should do a post on some tips for oily skin as this can benefit a lot of people who have oily skin. So let’s move on to these tips which will benefit you all out there who has oily skin and help you in getting control on your oily skin and acne.

Top 5 Tips for Oily Skin
1. Choose Products for Your Skin Type:

I know this is the most basic tip you must have heard but not using products meant for your skin type can really do a lot of damage to your skin. If you have oily and sensitive skin, choose products which are gentle as well as oil free. To know what your skin type really is, check this post Here. Use an oil free gel cleanser not hydrating ones two times daily, if you feel your skin gets oily in the middle of the day, you can just splash a bit of water to clean it or use a gram flour mixture in place of your regular face wash as washing face with cleanser too often or more than twice a day can cause dullness and strip skin’s natural oils leading it to produce more oil.

After washing your face with a cleanser, use a toner preferably alcohol free (you can even use natural rose water) and then use an oil free moisturizer, go for that says for acne prone and oily skin if you have acne prone skin and oil free moisturizer and use a matte sunscreen as a last step in your skin care regimen in the morning. The best sunscreen for oily skin I can suggest is the Lotus 3-in-1 Matte sunscreen reviewed Here.

2. Wash Face with Lukewarm Water:

If you wash your face with hot water thinking that it removes all oil from your face then you are doing a lot of harm to your skin, it will make your skin dry for the time being but then it will produce more oil then normal and make your oily skin and acne more worse and red if you have acne prone skin and if you use too cold water to wash your face, it will disturb the whole balance of your skin and tighten it a lot making it worse so it’s best to always use lukewarm water to wash your face.

3. Use Clay Mask:

Invest in a good clay mask once a week. Get yourself a good clay mask because clay mask helps draw out impurities, removes excess oil from your pores and purifies and clarifies the skin while tightening the pores with regular use. You can also use clay mask twice a week. Keep the mask for the recommended time period and not extra than that as it can over-dry your skin and make it stretchy. Read the post on all about mask Here. Two of the good clay masks you should invest in are: Lotus Professional Cleansing Facial Soothing Masque and Lotus Skin Perfecting and Rejuvenating Fruit Pack.

4. Gentle Exfoliation with BHA:

BHAs are Beta-Hydroxy Acids which exfoliates your skin from deep within the pores. BHA helps kill bacteria in the pores, minimize the appearance of pores, control and prevents acne. BHAs are mostly present in the form of salicylic acid and glycolic acid in products, you can use any product with beta hydroxy acid, it can be a cleanser (try Neutogena oil free cleanser or Clean & Clear 2% salicylic acid cleanser or Saslic Acid Face Wash), a toner, a scrub or a moisturizer. The product with which I had good experience is Avon Blemish Clearing Oil-Free Balancing Lotion.

5. Blotting Paper or Oil Absorbing Sheets:

Blotting paper soaks all oil from your face without removing your makeup so keep a few handy in your bag when you need to do touch ups, just dab them on your face lightly and then do touch ups with your compact for a fresh glow, this will help your makeup to stay fresh and not get cakey or patchy when re-applying powder or compacts.

These are the top 5 tips for oily skin I came up with, hope this post helps you!! I’m soon coming up with a clarifying diy mask which is great for oily skin so stay tuned if you want to know the diy.
