Your first year of nursing school can be a difficult time with the amount of new knowledge you are gaining while learning a new profession in a new setting. It’s never possible to completely eliminate the difficulty of this new direction in life, but a few tips can help you conquer your first year in nursing school.
Stay Organized
It’s important to start your nursing program off on the right foot and stay organized throughout the entire academic year. This should include making sure you have all of the books and tools you need. Also keep a calendar or list of all your classes, exams, labs and other activities in your life that could be going on at the same time. This will help keep your daily duties straight and on track.
Take Your Time
You are only one person and there’s no way everything can get done all at once. Prioritize what you have to do and complete tasks one at a time. If you become overwhelmed or have too much going on, make sure to take a break, not beginning again until you have cleared your mind and feel more refreshed. Rushing through something will only produce low quality results and your education will suffer.
Find A Mentor
Whether it be a professor, a co-worker or another student who is nearing the end of nursing school, a mentor can help provide valuable guidance and direction during your first year. When you have completed your nursing program it can also provide networking tools to help you find and land myriad nursing jobs.
Conquering your first year in nursing school can be a challenge, but with the right mindset and plan you will be able to succeed and flourish in your new career path. With a successful education in nursing you will be able to land your dream nursing jobs in the field that you love.
