Time Travel - is It True?

Posted on the 13 November 2011 by Vandanan @vandanan_m
Time travel- a subject, whether true or not, has fascinated man for generations. But to truly understand this subject, we need to know what is 'time' first.   We live in a three dimensional world. That is, we only perceive three dimensions. However, we can hypothesize many more dimensions. Time is, said to be the fourth dimension. We are traveling through time constantly - in a 'forward' direction.

Time Travel - is it true?

A Wormhole

So we can travel through time. But can we, somehow, go back in time? According to physicists, yes. This is explained using many theories, like string theory, or superstring theory. Even if this is true, and we do accomplish the magnificent feat of traveling backward in time, as in HG Wells' book The time machine, there are paradoxes. A paradox is, simply, a statement that is seemingly true, but which defies logic at the same time. One of the famous paradoxes associated with the subject of time travel is the grandfather paradox. Many a sci-fi writer has used this in his stories. The paradox is- What if you traveled back in time and killed your biological grandfather? Some say there is aforce which prevents you from doing so, just like here is a force that prevents you from walking on the ceiling.   If we were to make time travel truly possible, we will need a Time Machine. But not one like many films and books describe, but one far more sophisticated- which will be capable of traveling through a black hole and still stay intact, or maybe a machine that can travel at very high speeds. Or, as some say, we can use wormholes. Wormholes are hypothetical 'bridges' that connect two points of space time.
Although no real proof of Time travel exists in today's world, we may be able to accomplish this in a decade or so. Once it is possible, we may be able to unravel secrets of the past, and who knows? Time travel and Time machines may become commonplace on day!
