Time to Get Fit - The Netball Body

Time to Get Fit - The Netball Body
I had a dream last night that I was a Victoria Secret model. But that wasn't the best bit. Because I was a Victoria Secret model, I got free shoes. It's as though my mind knew that the promise of a good body was not a decent enough incentive to work out. There had to be a promise of foot candy to sweeten the deal.
So it makes sense that to start off my new fitness regime, I needed new kicks. Before you start your consumerism rant, my current Nike frees were tired. After walking in some dog poo, I had decided the only way to deal with the smelly matter was to leave them out in a couple of rain storms. They cleaned up good, but they also shrunk! Either that or my feet have grown in the last couple of months. So, yesterday (payday), I went and got these little beauties. I've moved from the frees to the lunarglides, they are a little more supportive as I have old-lady knees.
So, no more excuses, it was time for my well-dressed feet to hit the pavement. But then what....
I was discussing my figure, and it's changes over the years, with the man the other day. During the discussion I realised there are two times in my life when I have been in great shape. The first was when I surfed...two hours of solid aerobic exercise and you don't even realize you are working out, because you are having so much fun! Unless you suck like I do, and then it's more like a wash cycle.
Anyway, the second time, was when I was a netball player. I was playing three-four games a week and I was a defense so I was sprinting for 40 minutes. But, I had to shelve the netball last year due to said old-lady knees. I played in the circle and it gets rough in there! Girls double my size pushing and shoving to get that ball in the net. I tried to hold my own, but it came at the expense of the odd knee or ankle, two very important joints.
So, as I inspected my little purple sneakers, I decided to attempt to get the netball body, without the aggressiveness of club netball. And what does that mean? Sprints and squat leaps.
I realised that these were the main exercises I was doing when playing the game. I was either sprinting, jumping for a rebound, or leaning in with my abs engaged to defend.
So, being a girl who is time-poor at the moment, this is my new regime for the next couple of weeks.

Regime:

15 minute jog to warm up

8 sets of 80 meter sprints

(sprint for 80 metres then walk back to starting position to slow the heart, and repeat)

10 squat jumps between each sprint.

Please see video for an example of squat jumps. However, I reach my arms in the air when jumping to work them also. I also keep my abs on at all times.

I then jogged to the coffee shop and walked home down the beach to clear the lactic acid from my legs. Not a bad start to the morning and I feel pretty great (except I have started to get a little sore, but that's a good thing right!). I will let you know if I notice a difference in my body after two weeks. It may not be Victoria Secret worthy, but as long as it's healthy and fit, I'm a happy girl. Maybe if I stick to this new fitness kick, I will shout myself some shoes...seems to be the best way to get things done around here...
