I've been avoiding information about this film for quite a while, mainly because I've found myself finding the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter Love Triangle (not a literal Love Triangle, of course!!) incredibly tedious and boring. I appreciate that Burton and Bonham Carter are a couple, and that they're good friends with Depp, but the threesome is getting tired, to the point that I want to yell at them to just get a bloody room!
Jack Sparrow and Bellatrix LeStrange prove that both Depp and Bonham Carter have amazing acting abilities, but when they come together with Burton it always feels like they're stepping into one big cliché.
Nevertheless, when the Dark Shadows trailer refused to stop haunting me across the internet, I thought What the Heck, and just gave in to a mild pique of vague interest:
My problem with this film, apart from the irritation of my least favorite threesome, is that as soon as I started watching the trailer (above), other films that it reminded me of came screaming into my head. Films like: Edward Scissorhands (style-wise), Beetlejuice (the humour), Blast from the Past and Austin Powers (someone coming from the past and trying to live in an unusual future!) just made me realize how un-original this film feels. I know that it's a re-make, but I just think that the whole concept is tired and Burton hasn't really perked it up enough for me to want to go see it.
