Three Ways to Remove a Swimming Pool

When that swimming pool in the backyard is more of an eyesore than a fun summertime escape, there are ways to make it all go away - or at least hide it. The upside to pool removal in Phoenix, AZ, is that you'll save money spent maintaining and heating the pool. Also, homeowner's insurance will cost less. And you'll have more space for a lawn or patio.

Three Ways to Hide a Swimming Pool

There are three ways to remove, or hide a swimming pool. One way is to completely remove the swimming pool. This involves a demolition team coming in to jack hammer the pool structure, liner, cement, tile, etc. and haul it away to a landfill. This leaves you with a clean hole that you need to fill in with dirt. The second way is to partially remove the top three or so feet of the pool. Then fill in the space with dirt. The third option is to simply fill the pool with dirt, leaving the top perimeter exposed.

Option #1 - Complete Pool Removal

To have a swimming pool removed requires a permit from your city's building department. The swimming pool removal company will take care of this. First, electricity and plumbing lines are dug up and disconnected for safety. Then pool equipment such as the filter is removed. Next with heavy equipment the pool decking is broken up and hauled out of the backyard to a roll-off dumpster. Then comes the pool shell and structure. This is also hauled out to the roll-off dumpster. Once you have a large hole with all man-made materials out of the way, then the backfilling with clean dirt begins. A compactor will be brought in to impact the soil so you don't have any depressions in your new backyard space. Once the dirt is level with the rest of the backyard, landscaping can begin.

Option #2 - Partial Pool Removal

Out of sight, out of mind. In partial pool removal, the top three feet or so of the pool is broken up and hauled away, but the lower portion of the pool remains and is buried. Electricity and plumbing lines are dug up and disconnected for safety, and filter equipment is removed. To provide drainage, the bottom of the pool is broken up and hauled away. Then as with option #1, backfilling with clean dirt begins. A compactor will be brought in to impact the soil so you don't have any depressions in your new backyard space. And as with option #1, once the dirt is level with the rest of the backyard, landscaping can begin.

Option #3 - Swimming Pool Fill-in

The third option is to simply fill the pool with dirt, leaving the top perimeter exposed. In this case, electrical and plumbing lines, as well as filtering equipment, are removed. Also, the bottom of the pool is broken up to allow for drainage. Essentially, you'll see the perimeter of the pool and dirt leveled to the surface.

On hot summer days you may miss the pool, but the money you'll save in maintenance and the enjoyment in the new backyard space makes swimming pool removal in Phoenix, AZ, a good investment.
