Thirsty Thursday: A Little Something Different

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

It has been quite the week, no? Between the Polar Vortex II (aka winter) here in Chicago and the general willpower it takes to sustain the third week of new year’s resolutions (R.I.P. coffee) I am ready for a drink. And, at long last, it’s time to resurrect Thirsty Thursday. I’ve loved this column/feature since I started it way back when, but it bounced from this blog to RLJ’s official blog, got neglected, didn’t perform that well on Pinterest, and seemed to have only one true fan (shout out to my fave JCK reporter Brittany). But you know what? I love a good craft cocktail almost as much as I love a great, weird vintage cocktail ring, so Thirsty Thursday is back dammit. And today, we’re welcoming back this feature with two delightfully different cocktails. The first is a new favorite of mine from Bubbeh’s case: It’s a bright and bold gold cocktail ring that features three gleaming pearls set into scalloped 14kt yellow gold. It’s accented by amethyst, citrine, topaz and peridot (possibly tsavorite – TBA once I confirm with our GG) marquise cuts that make it reminiscent of Bridge Club on Bourbon Street/Haute Mardis Gras Beads. This is obviously the greatest. Because it’s so eccentric, it restrains itself by maintaining a nice, low profile and minimal presence on the hand (well as minimal as multi-color gemstones and bright white pearls can get anyway). This ring is a gorgeous opportunity for fashionistas to show off how they can style and re-style vintage pieces they’ve either inherited, pilfered from the grown-up dress up box, or scored at a fantastic estate sale (or fantastic estate jeweler). Its as deserving of a drink as unique as its beauty, so this Hibiscus, ginger champagne cocktail is a gorgeous match. It includes ginger liquer, your favorite bottle of champagne, and hibiscus flowers soaked in rose water (don’t get me started on how much I love herbal and floral cocktails!) Naturally, the Pinterest link was a complete fail and led me to the deceased Google Reader, so I had to Google it hunt it down ruthlessly for you. Please re-pay me by mixing it up, raising your glass, imagining how much better your hand would look with this ring on it, and toasting me. Cheers, darling, and welcome back to Thirsty Thursday.
