The Vampire Diaries 2x14: Crying Wolf

Original Air Date: 10 February 2011

Storyline: Stefan and Elena get away for what they hope will be a romantic weekend at the Gilbert family lake house, not realizing that they've been followed. Jenna starts to worry that Alaric isn't being honest with her, after John tries to turn her against her boyfriend. Jules explains the importance of the sun and moon curse to Tyler, but leaves out an important detail. Damon attends a tea at the Historical Society in order to talk to Elijah, but Elijah isn't giving up any secrets. With help from Caroline and Jeremy, Bonnie uses deceptive measures to get shocking new information out of Luka. Finally, Tyler offers Matt some relationship advice.Trivia: The license plate on Stefan's car is Virginia plate V82-638.

When Elena is texting Tyler (thinking she's sending a message to Caroline), the message on her phone reads, "Headed to lakehouse w Stefan. U ok?" When Tyler looks at the message on the other end the message reads, "Headed to the lake house with Stefan. U ok?"

Best Quote:

Stefan: Elena, how...how could you stand out there earlier with me, talking about making plans for our future when you don't even expect to have one?
Elena: I'm sorry, Stefan. I'm just trying to keep the people that I love safe. I'm trying to keep you safe.
Stefan: No. What you're doing is you're being a martyr.
Elena: How is that any different from when you say that you would die to keep me safe?Stefan: Because I've already lived. A hundred and sixty-two years I have lived, and you've barely begun, and now you want to let yourself get killed? That's not heroic. It's tragic.

Damon's BestIf I did [kill Andie], who would report her death?Review: The episode was not exactly boring, as a lot of things happened, but it seemed like something was missing. Maybe it was because there was way to much of Stefan and Elena alone. Seeing how they are not my favorite couple to begin with, the way too mushy let's-play-house scenes made me lose interest in them very fast. There was one moment that I liked, though, and that was Stefan telling Elena that her choice is not heroic, it's tragic. I agree with that, she's a freaking Greek tragedy waiting to happen and thankfully she already has the name to match.

There were a couple of other emotional/romantic moments that actually did something for me: the long expected kiss between Bonnie and Jeremy and Tyler's chat with Matt (though I'd rather see Caroline with Tyler).
While not completely taking a break from the curse plot, the episode focused on the werewolves finding out about the doppelganger's existence and trying to kidnap Elena and use her to break the curse. This gave us a couple of well done action scenes. The one in Mystic Falls involved Damon, ambushed in his own house by Jules and a few others and tortured for the location of the moonstone. While Damon resisted heroically while being chocked with a device used mainly in porn movies (did I miss something, or was this show addressed to teenagers?), Elijah kept his side of the deal yet another time and saved him  by ripping the hearts out of almost the entire pack. Should I be worried about enjoying all this heart ripping? Stefan did it as well to the werewolf that attacked them at the lake house.
Damon and Alaric shared again a few fun moments and I'm really loving this bromance. I found Alaric's description of Elijah hilarious ("That Elijah's one scary dude but with nice hair.") and their conversation about not killing Andie was also very amusing. I'd be really bummed if Alaric died for real anytime soon, but I don't see his relationship with Jenna having a future, with that jerk John Gilbert messing with them.
As for the lake house, Jules' boyfriend (didn't care enough to remember his name) and Tyler went for Elena, but their plan was thwarted by Stefan telling Tyler that breaking the curse meant killing Elena. Say what you may about he boy, but no matter how much he wants the curse removed, he cares about his friends. So will we see him again? I hope so, cause if this is the last of the werewolves we were given, then I'm going to be really annoyed.
There was a new discovery in the whole breaking the curse and killing Klaus endeavor  well, new-ish, seeing how Elena already knew about her role in all this. Bonnie, Caroline and Jeremy took it upon themselves to kidnap Luka and put him in a trance to extract information about Elijah and they found out that he never intended for Elena to survive. Klaus can only be killed when he is weak after performing the sacrifice. He also has Luka's sister (and has imprisoned witches for ages trying to break the curse without the doppelganger) and that's the reason why the Martins are helping Elijah.
Some questions we're left with after this episode: will Elena find more about her past in the Gilbert journals she found at the lake house? Will she and Stefan touch the subject of their future together again any time soon? And when will Jenna find out the truth about everything that's been going on behind her back? Also, why would Elena still need a legal guardian? Isn't she about 18 by now?
