The Time is Getting Short for Nokia

Posted on the 22 April 2012 by Yogeshvashist98 @YogeshVashist98

Nokia unveiled its first quarter financial results on Thursday and, not surprisingly, they show that the walls of the house begin to crack.

The company lost more than 1.3 billion Euros during the quarter obviously very difficult. Much (772 million) is attributable to restructuring costs, but its operating loss is still 260 million euros, compared to a gain of 704 million the same quarter last year.

Nokia continues to suffer widespread migration of customers of mobile phones “ordinary” (the feature-phones in the jargon) market, where it was dominant, the smartphone market, where it has been overtaken by Apple, Google (and partners) and even Research in Motion.

The medium-term survival of the company through its successful range of smartphones Lumia, launched in collaboration with Microsoft, which I reviewed the first model available in Canada recently.

I quote verbatim the explanations provided by Nokia with its results regarding the range Lumia.

We launched four aircraft Lumia earlier than expected and they were well received by critics. The sales results were lukewarm. We exceeded our expectations in some markets, including the U.S., but take a run was more difficult in some other markets, including the United Kingdom. ”

These results are not surprising warm. They are made in the image of the devices themselves: encouraging, but not as good as hoped.

In an interview quoted by the New York Times , the CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop, said he was “clearly disappointing” results this quarter. ”But, he added, the figures mask the whole of what we accomplished. Lumia is the range in motion in the United States. We are indeed at the heart of a transition. ”

To get a picture Botanical (warning: I have no green thumb), the good news for Nokia is actually the roots of Lumia “took.” Without hitting a home run, the range has done just enough to give credibility in the market. It now awaits the next wave of models for whether these roots, born a tree or shrub.
