the Things I’d Like to Say to You

By Melissa Boles @_mboles

Before I really begin this, I’d like to say thank you for sticking with me.  It has been a whirlwind summer since I last posted here, but I’m ready to be back, and I’m excited about where this blog is going.  So thanks for sticking around.

Last week, I was lucky enough to have a piece posted on the To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) blog.  The piece, entitled “Because Love Is The Story,” is about the beginning of my process to figuring out that loving myself was more important than anything else.  It was more important than how I looked, than whether or not others loved me – if I loved myself, all things would fall into place.  And though they haven’t completely (these things take time – Nathan Fillion, I’m still single, so…), they are beginning to fall together.  It’s beautiful.

The thing that most blew me away about this piece going up was the response that I got.  Tweets, lots of them, and emails.  Beautiful, heartbreaking, amazing emails.  Emails that made me want to reach through the screen and hug the person typing to me.  That made me wish that I could fly exactly to where that person was and take them out for coffee and tell them that everything was going to be okay.

So, to those of you that emailed me, or tweeted me, or who want to but haven’t yet, and to those who read my piece, I’d like to say a couple of things:

First of all, thank you.  Thank you for reading my piece.  For sharing it with someone who needed it.  For reaching out to me on Twitter or via email and sharing your story with me.  Just in the last few days I’ve felt so much love, and I just want to thank you for that.

Second, I love you.  I hope you know, that even if we haven’t met yet, I love you.  My heart wants to love all of the people in the world, and you’re one of them.  You’re beautiful, and strong, and worth love.  Please don’t forget that.

Third, keep me updated.  If the piece spoke to you and you reached out to me (or are thinking about it), please keep me updated.  Tell me how things are going, how your journey is happening.  Stick around this blog and share the stories of your amazing life with the people who end up here.  Tell me when things are good, and when things are bad.  When you’re struggling and can’t figure out what is going wrong.  I want you to tell me that too, because I could have used someone to talk to when I was where you are, so I want to be that for you.

Finally, go out and love someone today.  Even if you’re still working on what it means to love yourself, spend a little time loving on someone today.  Pick a flower for someone.  Buy the person in line behind you coffee.  Tell someone you like their shirt, or their dress, or their smile.  Spread the love in your heart in the way that feels best to you.  And then tell me about it.

Thank you again to all of you who reached out to me, who read my piece, and who shared it with others.  And thanks for being here.  I’m so glad to have you.

PS. If you’re wondering where this blog is going, don’t worry, I’m still figuring it out too.  Mostly, I want this to be a place where people can come to find people who are going through what they’re going through.  I’ll be doing some book and product reviews, talking about adventures, and sharing parts of my story.  This blog is about life, and adventure.  So I hope you hang around.
