The Thigh Gap Conundrum

By Cleverbuttons @cleverbuttons

Hi All,

It’s another day and another sad story of women trying to achieve what they believe to be perfection, when most of the time it is just media backed nonsense. Today’s post is all about the fashion worlds gap between the thighs – I know how strange that may sound, but bare with me for a minute. The thigh gap is the area at the top of the thighs, that in some women doesn’t meet together – notice the word SOME. Whether you have the thigh gap or not, this will come down to many factors; your natural bone structure, your height, your genetics, your fitness level, the length of your legs – the list goes on and on.

…..Marilyn Monroe didn’t have a thigh gap….why should we?
Now, it has come to my attention that having the thigh gap means that you have the perfect figure, without it you are simply not quite there yet. WHAT, WHAT, WHAT! Since when did it matter whether your legs met in the middle or not. Mine meet in the middle and I work out 4 times a week, swim as often as I physically can and I am built of solid muscle; but because I don’t have the thigh gap I am not considered beautiful. This is the one of the singularly most ridiculous things I have heard and i urge any woman who is reading this and thinking “I don’t have that, I must work out more and eat less” to simply stop.

The Miss Lawley Case

thigh gap debate

Recently a beautiful picture turned up online of the gorgeous, plus sized model Robyn Lawley who has walked for Ralph Lauren and been seen in the pages of Vogue. The picture, seen above, shows Miss Lawley bending forward and showing off her gorgeous thighs which look amazing to me. The issue with this was the disrespectful, disgusting and sad comments left throughout Facebook and other sites; some that went as far as to call her a “Pig” which is ridiculous because she is clearly female and human! After more than 900 comments posted on a pro thigh gap Facebook page, Miss Lawley decided to hit back and rightly so.

She made the point that the comments were left by people that did not know her, her achievements as a model or her size 12 body. A valid point to make and one that all women should take note of; if you are healthy and happy with your figure then why on earth does it matter if your thighs meet in the middle or not?

Talking about how she feels about the Pro thigh gap movement and her own figure, she is quoted as stating;

“I’ve been trying to do just the opposite,’ she explained. ‘I want my thighs to be bigger and stronger. I want to run faster and swim longer. I suppose we all just want different things, but women have enough pressure as it is without the added burden of achieving a “thigh gap.”‘ (quote from the Daily Mail)

I don’t think I could have said it better myself!! Women, let go of the thigh gap notion…..be healthy, be happy and never feel less of a woman because you can’t naturally see through a gap in your beautiful thighs!!!!!!
