When it comes to source game machinemas, two youtube users comes to mind. They are DasBoSchitt who is famous for his Gmod Idiot Box series and Djy1991 who is well known for creating the Idiots of Gary’s Mod series. Most of the animation were created using Garry’s Mod where the creator uses existing rag dolls from a source game to pose or make funny faces with. The process to animate this way is tedious and posing a certain character or making it move a certain way can be very difficult.
Thankfully, the source team has recently shared with us the Source Film Maker. This software allows us to create 3d movies using the games engine and its objects, check it out (and checkout DasBoSchitt and Djy1991 while you’re at it, guaranteed to make you laugh).
