It’s been a while since I’ve had an opportunity to write. Normally I’ll take little breaks from blogging when I have a lot of work to accomplish. But this time, I’m happy to say I’ve just been too busy playing. Rock concerts, dinosaurs in the Botanical Gardens, afternoons on the beach and time spent with family and friends have been eating up my free time recently. Thanks to all my loyal readers for being so patient with me.
I can tell you that while I’ve been playing, I’ve also been reading – of course. I was looking for some new audio books when I ran across this book called The Soulkeeper by GP Ching. I’m not one for reading a book based on the cover art, but this one got to me. I had no preconceived notions about what I was about to get myself into. In the span of 3 weeks, I devoured all 6 books in the series. Any free time I got, even driving in my car, was dedicated to finishing out another book.
Below are some quick descriptions of the books and my review.
Book 1: The Soulkeeper

As Lucifer becomes more powerful, an underground Christian movement begins to take root. The Tom Sawyer Society does their part to support one another in order to prevent themselves from having to give their souls to the Devil. They also help the Soulkeepers keep alive the one saving hope they all have.
This is the end. By the end of the book, the fate of Soulkeepers and all the rest of mankind will be decided.
The Review
This was a great story about discovering who you are, what your place in the world is and what side of the line you will stand on when it counts. Each book built on top of the other and the continuous story was seamless. It’s a timeless story of Good vs. Evil, but told in a whole new way.
From a theological standpoint, you’ll have to overlook a few things. The book series seems to mesh belief systems and its soldiers are sometimes caught in moral dilemmas in which they need to make a bad moral judgment call in order to serve the greater good. For instance, they steal an RV in order to conceal themselves as they head into city where Lucifer has taken up residence.
I would recommend this book to teens and young adults alike who are fans of supernatural fantasy stories. If you like Divergent or The Hunger Games, you’ll love The Soulkeeper series. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if one day we see Hollywood take interest and find this series being played out on the big screen. I’d actually welcome it. 5 Stars!
