Hey guys! On the 13th of October I turned 27! This is significant for a number of reasons, the biggest of which being the beginning of my first, and supposedly most turbulent, Saturn Return! For those of you who don’t know the Saturn Return is an astrological event which occurs between the ages of 27 and 32. During this time the planet Saturn returns to the astrological point it occupied when you were born. I’m no astrology buff but I know that Saturn is a powerful force in the world of astrology and it’s transit or presence in your sign is often marked with stress, depression, moodiness, difficult life changes, illness and upheaval. Of course great growth and learning can take place through such challenges but I don’t think anyone would say they enjoy them!
So anyway the return of Saturn to it’s position during birth is said to represent the movement into a new phase of life. Out out youth and into maturity; to adult life. Needless to say this transition can be extremely challenging and many people during the ages of 27 and 32 go through huge changes. A lot of soul searching takes place during this time as we re-evaluate what is truly important to us and attempt to place ourselves on the right track going into the next phase of our lives.
I know, for example, that my dad studied family therapy and became a youth worker during this time, having been a successful musician before that! And my partner Anna left her life in Poland for a new beginning in Ireland.

And so I wonder what these next few years will have in store for me. I feel quite settled right now, content in myself and my work. I write, I play music, I teach music. It will certainly be interesting to see what comes up and where my Saturn return takes me!
You may have heard of the 27 Club, a club for the long list of popular musicians who have died at this age. And it’s not just famous people either, many sadly take their own lives around the Saturn return or succumb to dangerous drug and alcohol habits. With this is mind I believe that the Saturn Return is a time in which to calmly and collectedly evaluate our priorities and look at the directions in which we are heading with a sober and clear perspective.

So as I venture courageously into my late 20′s I wonder what my life will look like as I exist out the other end of the Saturn Return. I can’t wait to find out, and I’m looking forward to the journey
