Well, it’s officially Awards Season! Get in your jammies and dim the lights! And don’t forget to pull that cozy fleece throw over your head.
Don’t get me wrong: I love movies. But watching this year’s Best Cast nominations felt more like having a root canal performed on the sidewalk during five o’clock traffic than setting my eyes upon cinematic greatness. As amazingly acted as they were (and they were), Spotlight, Beasts of No Nation, Straight Outta Compton, Trumbo, and The Big Short definitely felt like epic tragedies. That’s probably because they were all plucked from real life. As they say, truth is stranger, and in this case, more scary, than fiction.
