The Rocketeer/The Spirit: Pulp Friction #1

Posted on the 24 July 2013 by Geekasms @geekasms

I just finished issue #1 of The Rocketeer/The Spirit limited series and I am surprised that I enjoyed it.  I’m not overly familiar with the characters, I watched The Rocketeer movie years ago and The Spirit, while legendary, was not something I had ever read.  However, I figured with Mark Waid writing it, I had to give it a shot.  I’m glad I did because it was a fun first issue.  The story deals with a murder of an alderman from the east coast where The Spirit lives whose body ends up on the West Coast where The Rocketeer is based.  They have their “meet cute” and team up to solve the murder.

The joy of this book is in the period visuals by Paul Smith and the great dialog by Mark Waid.  I would certainly recommend it.

Here is a preview of the issue:
