The Perfume Pill: Is This The End For The Perfume Bottle?

By Wildchildmedia @wildchildmedia

They can be seen in the bathrooms and on the dressing tables of women all over the world, but it seems that perfume bottles may soon be a thing of the past.

Dutch company ‘Swallowable Parfum’ are developing edible, scented capsules that give off a ‘genetically unique’ scent through sweat. It could be ready to market in three to five years.

Co-creator of the ‘perfume pill’ Lucy McRae, explains: “I came up with the idea of a perfume pill while thinking about the limits of our body and how digestible technology could change them. With ‘Swallowable Parfum’ the skin becomes like a perfume atomiser, releasing scent from the inside out.”

However there are also concerns about the safety of the pill. Dr Sunil Chopra, a skin specialist from The London Dermatology Centre said: “It could interfere with other medication, and people need to be aware that products labelled ‘food supplements’ don’t have to go through the same tests as other drugs.”

Although it may be a new and exciting innovation for the beauty industry, I don’t think that most women are prepared to give up their Chanel no.5, Miss Dior or Jean Paul Gaultier perfume bottles just yet.
