We cross country parent. This means my sonish lives several states away, leaving us to manage a little differently then those whose entire families are in the same region or city. Jason talks with him throughout the week so we're pretty up to date on all that's going on. It's often Jason who talks with him. Like many momish situations, there's weirdness surrounding what the family he lives with thinks of him liking his momish. As a result, I'm not a direct part of every call or every conversation. Besides, I try to remember that the primary relationship is with his dad. It's a balancing act of always being available but never overstepping. It's not a bad thing and certainly no ones fault. It just is what it is. So I take the opportunity for closeness very seriously and cherish every single moment of it. Momish's walk a fine line of being involved and loving our kidishes but trying not to be selfish, over bearing, or over stepping our roles. It's a constant juggling act.
Last night I had the chance to chat with the sonish for about 20 minutes. OMG! I love that kid so much! I love that we're honest with each other and we laugh and we talk about a million different things in 20 minutes and...I could go on for several paragraphs here. Suffice to say, when those opportunities come to enjoy those conversations and that time together, I take them and cherish them. They leave me on such a high. His visit is being extended this summer so we'll get a couple of extra weeks with him. It can't get here fast enough. Here's to making the high last as long as I can between now and then.
