Doc Dugan: What does that have to do with anything?
Jane: This. Only when someone is standing 30 yards away do we see and hear the world exactly as it is. That's when your brain, sound and light are all in perfect harmony.
Doc Dugan: So?
Jane: The rest of the time we are living in a world of lies. Lies are what make the world make sense. Ergo, the truth hurts.
Review: I just started watching The Guardian again and, after watching one season in just a couple of days, I was stunned by the different characters the gorgeous Mr. Baker plays in the two shows. Of course, I don't expect an actor to play the same type of roles every time, what I wanted to say is that Simon Baker is not only eye-candy, he's also an amazing actor. The only thing that would make his characters better is maintaining that beautiful Australian accent of his.
It was one of the very few times when Jane's plan - or at least a big chunk of it - was revealed right from the start. And this time, it wasn't Lisbon he was trying to hide his plan from anymore, it was Wainwright, who, if I may say so, I find the weakest boss CBI has had so far. Maybe his youth and boyish looks make him seem not very authoritative or maybe it's just the fact that he doesn't seem to be able to have any influence on Jane. This is one of the aspects I want to see changed in the future and have Wainwright play a more prominent role in the CBI, not just be the press handling guy.
For once, Jane and Lisbon worked together on playing the trick on the murderer right from the beginning and, despite her sometimes sour face, she looked like she had fun with it. I sometimes miss the moments when she tried to keep Jane in check, since they came with hilarious bantering scenes between the two, but I understand the need to character evolution and when two people work together for so long and go through some pretty big stuff together, they are more inclined to think alike.
I didn't find the case all that exciting - especially since I predicted the outcome from the very beginning, but it did allow for some classic Jane moments, the best of those probably being barging in onto the supposed murder victim, Doc Dugan, while he was enjoying the aftermath of what looked like a threesome. Did anyone say "better than average"? Taking a mugshot of Rigsby while asking him what the capital of Iowa is and using him in a lineup was another great moment, especially when you add his confused and resigned face. That Rigsby, he always cracks me up!
Well, almost always. I'm not a Rigby/Van Pelt shipper, but I'm getting tired of Sarah and her way too cheery attitude. Plus, I will never understand how couples where there's such a big height difference have sex.
Other highlights: Cho being such a good "listener"; Grace's "I shot and killed my last boyfriend. I'm not ready for a relationship yet", something I may just need to adopt to ward off unwanted attention. Lisbon deciding on "the more the merrier". And, of course, Jane's psychic ruse, which may just be my favorite scene of the week. The Mentalist 4x08: Pink Tops Back to Season 4
