the Mark of Dedication

By Survivingana @survivingana

Talking to my friend last week about my last post, she said how right it was. That you keep them alive til they can make the decision themselves to recover. No matter what the struggle is to achieve this.

We both realised the dedication and the deeper truth of the motto of our dietitian. We have both shared the same support team. We have (and others I know) have all got the same dedication, same levels of care and support.

What I find as the mark of dedication is that regardless of the monster your daughter or son becomes the team sticks with them. Our daughters have been incredibly rude to their team. In the case of mine, Sophie has used many swear words to tell them where to go. She has walked out of therapy sessions, been asked to leave therapy sessions, has threatened hospital staff, been threatened with security, and been scheduled under the Mental Health Act to force her to stay in hospital. It’s been tough for her, her team and us. But her team never gave up, never walked away.

They all lived by the motto of “keep them alive …”  and they all understood that this eating disorder illness was the reason for the awful behavior. They all knew that when she was to a point in recovery that this behavior would disappear. They all believed in my/our daughters own selves. Never once did they lose focus that underneath this illness our daughters were still there and needed care, nurture and belief that they were worth saving.

Thank you team, our gratitude has no words.
