The Maison de l'Amerique Latine in the 6th is simply a wonderful elegant place with wonderful food choices, wonderful service in a wonderful setting facing a huge garden with wonderful breads and amuses like today's shrimp ceviche on spicy guacamole.

Colette went for the 2 course 40 E "menu" and I the 59 E 3 course one; she started with a ballottine of quail with beets and corn and passion-fruit vinaigrette and I was touted off the langoustine raviolis towards green asparagus with morels, delicious both.

Then she had a perfectly sourced and cooked magret de canard with chorizo poked into it and a fricassee of chestnuts and cassis demiglace sauce; while I had M. Vaissiere's version of pied & ris de veau surrounded by a celery purree and truffle sauce.

The dessert we shared was apple three ways: in a Calvados souffle, in bits at the bottom of the souffle and with apple sorbet.

With a bottle of Argentinian wine, no bottled water, nice mignardises and 2 coffees, our bill was 135 E.

It was a great day (now 55° F.) and the maitre d', hearing our  "ooohing and ahhhing" about the garden, let us out the side-back-door and we wandered among the just-budding shrubs and trees.  Lovely.
