The Evolution Of A Theme: World Of Warcraft

ZUG ZUG!  Blood and Thunder friend!

World Of Warcraft (WoW), the game that changed, created, and defined a generation of gamers. Whether you liked it, played it, hated it or have just heard about it, this game has had much impact on the gaming industry.  Some of us here at The Geeks are veteran players of WoW.  We started in vanilla and raided, pvp’ed, griefed, camped, ran for our lives, rage quit, smashed keyboards and ganked our way through the last expansion: Cataclysm.  Sadly, the crew is  on a “temporarily leave” from this game.  Our love for it though, will never change.  Thank you WoW for the good, the bad, the ugly and the fun times you’ve brought us!

With a new expansion in the horizon, Mist Of Pandaria, we decided to look back at how the main theme of WoW evolved.  The song that any WoW-player subconsciously hum during their sleep.  So without further ado, here are the theme songs!

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade

World of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Current Expansion)

World of Warcraft: Mist of Pandaria (Upcoming expansions, PANDAS!)

We like how each song incorporates the theme, ideas, storylines, and characters from their respective expansions and yet subtly turns it into something different and unique. The sad and lonely undertones of Wrath of The Lich King’s theme (reflecting the lich king’s story and the snowy continent Northrend), the heavy and loud theme of Cataclysm (reflecting on Deathwing’s anger and the threat he posses to the world), are very well crafted musical pieces to accompany an equally well crafted world and game!

Maybe we’ll go back to Azeroth when Mist Of Pandaria launches, who knows?  But please listen and enjoy!  If it gets you interested in the game, then play it! If you’re a veteran player, remember the good times you’ve had with this franchise, because we do!
