The Etsy Experience

The Etsy Experience
I must say I am very pleased with my experience on Etsy.  I have worked hard to get my shop out in the public eye and it is beginning to pay off!  I have read where you need to un-list and re-list your items over and over again in order to stay at the top of the list, but I have not done that, it has taken a little less then a month but I am a full fledged shop now receiving my first order this week.  The word excitement does not even come close to describing the feelings I experienced when I realized I had my first sale!  What a great way to start a holiday weekend!
I am also trying my shop out on Artfire.  It is listed under the same name as my Etsy Shop GlosCraftyCreations.  I have almost the same items as in my Etsy Shop.  There are just a few differences between the two websites, mostly in the way fees are collected.  Etsy charges by the listed item and takes a small percentage of the sale.  Artfire charges a flat per month fee. I am going to try both for about 6 mos. and then make a decision, but right now Etsy is winning.
I have also been researching licensed fabric and exactly what it means.  I purchased several pieces of fabric to make Christmas pillow cases and one piece was marked "License is required for use beyond individual consuption".  I had no idea exactly what that meant but it sounded scary and just a little threatening.  I never would have bought it had I had known that before hand.  This Website Tabberone.com is a great website.  It answered a lot of my questions and made things a little more clear.  Check it out and make up your own mind about the legalities of claims made by licensed fabrics.

New this week in my Etsy Shop.
I have more burp cloths this week, these are made of absorbent diapers folded and faced with a waterproof fabric called PUL.  They are a convenient size and sell as 1 piece so you can get more than one design.

I also have a baby blanket and changing pad set.  It includes two receiving blankets and one changing pad.  The blankets are a great size, handy for many different task and the changing pad is faced in 100% polyester waterproof PUL which will help protect bedding or other changing area surfaces.

Also new this week is vintage style braided hair barrettes.  These barrettes were very popular in the 80's and I made them by the dozens for my two daughters and their friends.  They had a pair to match their ball uniforms and all of their outfits! Check them out and see if you remember them.
