The Differences Between Natural Skin Care and Organic Skincare Products

If your health is important to you, you most likely watch your diet very carefully and try to use as few chemically based products as possible. But did you know that there is a difference between natural skin care and organic skincare products? It is true. If you are interested in minimizing the harmful chemicals in your system as much as possible, you should look for those products developed using organic ingredients.

But what does an organic designation mean, and how is it different than natural skincare? Both natural skincare products and organic skincare products both use plant based ingredients as the basis for their formulas. But organic skincare goes one step further. In order for a product to be labeled, it cannot contain any synthetic ingredients or chemical preservatives.

Why is this important for your skin and your health? It is simple. The skin is a living organ and a direct conduit into your system. If you use chemical products on your skin they will be absorbed into your bloodstream and carried to all other areas of the body. Chemicals and harmful toxins that are placed on the skin can then be stored in body fat and other cells and may have far reaching and very negative effects.

Consider products such as parabens, which are used in many products as preservatives. In order to be considered organic skincare products, there cannot be any parabens in a cream, lotion or other product. Scientists have been unable to determine what safe levels of parabens are, so it is now advised to avoid them wherever and whenever possible.

Parabens have been proven to mimic the effects of estrogen in the system and because of that they can damage the endocrine system, harm the reproductive health of unborn children and are thought to cause breast cancer in women.

Pthalates are another ingredient which has been determined harmful to the human body. They are added to many different products, even those labeled "natural" so that they are more easily poured out of the bottle or container. Like parabens, they have been proven to cause cancer in individuals and so it is best to avoid these. Organic skincare products cannot contain phthalates.

If you want to make sure that you are not absorbing toxins and harmful chemicals from your skincare products, look for organic products. They can help you maintain your beauty and your health for many years to come.
