The Devil’s Pasta!

By Marensmorsels @marentweets

Hey guys! How was your Tuesday? Mine was pretty darn good.

I worked from 7am – 4pm at Anthropologie and got the steal of the century on a pair of shoes!!! They’re these really cute oxford wedges. After I picked up Donner from Park-a-Pup I started cooking dinner and now its all about packing. Max and I are going on a 10 day vacation and 10 whole days away from home means some serious packing is in order!

I’m not doing that great…

The only downside is that I have a little bit of a sore throat. It started hurting this afternoon which is normally a sure sign of a cold in my future. I HOPE I’M NOT GETTING SICK THE DAY BEFORE VACATION!!!

DINNER!

After reading Eat Live Run the other day Jenna left me with All’arribbiata on the brain. Since we’re going to be gone for a week and a half buying groceries is definitely not going to happen, so I was stuck making dinner with what we had in our little cupboard (aka the pantry).

I don’t like making spaghetti sauce from scratch. I think the jar stuff tastes good, like just as good as when I make it fresh. So why bother?! Plus, I’m just really not that fancy. I like any and all shortcuts!

I normally just fancy up my jar sauce by adding a few things. Tonight I made angry, I mean DEVIL’S SAUCE. Devil’s sauce is just really angry in case you’re not familiar with the phrase. It took literally 30 seconds of extra cook time and maybe, MAYBE 5 minutes for chopping up the garlic and getting a few ingredients out of the cupboard.

The Devi's Pasta Sauce! 2013-08-27 23:02:46 Yields 8 really angry spaghetti sauce! Write a review Save Recipe Print Prep Time 5 min Cook Time 10 min Total Time 15 min Prep Time 5 min Cook Time 10 min Total Time 15 min Ingredients 1 jar of basic marinara sauce, I like Trader Joe's 1 or 2 cloves of garlic, minced 2 TBSP evoo 1 tsp red pepper flakes 1 tsp sugar salt and pepper to taste 2-3 dried red spicy peppers, chopped and optional Instructions Heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Crush the flakes in your hand as you add them. Stir the olive oil, garlic and pepper flakes for about 30 seconds to a minute. The oil will start to turn red and angry. Pour in the sauce. After it heats up I like to taste it. I add the salt, pepper, and sugar based on flavor. This is also where you can throw in the optional chopped up dried peppers. This will make the sauce Devil's Sauce. Let it simmer for at least 10 minutes then serve over your favorite pasta. How’s that for ‘a few ingredients’?

If spicy really isn’t your thing, you can skip adding the red pepper flakes to the oil and just add them into the sauce. Cooking the flakes in the oil makes them get really spicy in my experience. Ohh, and crushing them in your fist before throwing them in releases more of the spicy oils, so you can skip that too to make the sauce less spicy.

Max and I really thought this sauce rocked!

I might have had 3, I mean 5 spoons as “taste testers”. But really I knew it was good and I couldn’t stop lapping it up.

Not too shabby for a pre-vacation no grocery stores allowed dinner.

We ate our pasta with parmesan roasted broccoli!!!
