The Debate Between Round & Elongated Toilets

By Jakemontgomery @LTDOnlineStores

When it comes to the topic of round versus elongated toilet bowls, there are people on both sides of the issue. Some say that round is better, others say that elongated is. There are pros and cons to both types depending on your needs. What some view as an advantage may be a disadvantage to others. Therefore it’s important to know what you want before shopping for a new toilet. Back2brooklyn presented this topic on Houzz.com back in 2008 and he/she has recieved many useful responses since then. People are still talking and sharing their knowledge and experience.

For elongated toilets, the consensus seems to be that they are much more comfortable for adults. The shape of the bowl is much better for men as well, giving them extra space where they need it most. Men also appreciate the sloped angle inside the bowl that helps prevent splashback. But their downside is that they are not good for small children under five years old. They can’t sit all the way back and their waste tends to drop down onto the front slope instead of in the water. This means cleaning the inside of the toilet more frequently.

The benefits of round toilets generally have to do with size. They are a better option for small bathrooms because they don’t take up as much space (from wall to front of toilet). Plus, children have an easier time using them. Some people believe that the round shape of the bowl also helps it flush more efficiently, although this has yet to be proven through testing.
