6.5 The Comptoir Canailles, 47, rue Rodier in the 9th, 01.53.20.95.56, closed Mondays (Metro: Anvers) is as nifty a place as you’d want to find. In the front window is a large refrigerated case where the chef matures his meats and flying things. The inside is totally modern and the ardoise has lots to chose from.
Back in the summer I got a Facebook message from Christophe Philippe of the Restaurant Christophe that closed definitively this summer. In it, Christophe said cryptically – “Comptoir Canailles, 47 rue Rodier 75009.” Hummm, has he started cooking here, got friends cooking, just recommending, let’s explore.
So today my good friend from the 9th and I enter and choose a table and start speaking (in English – nice waitlady approaches and in English says “In English or French?” "French" we both answer. Of course, the couple that run this place, while from Bocuse (her in the salle) and Ducasse (him in the kitchen) have done their time in Canada and are now back.
My “date” was debating between the rillettes and charcuterie but finally settled on the cepes “several ways” – me too. But the chef send over the charcuterie platter himself out of the kindness of his heart. We loved it and the cepes as well.
Then she had the chicken with Tarbais beans and I had more cepes with some lovely sole and panisse frites – both top of the line dishes albeit oversalted.
I was pressed to return home to await a plumber so we finished with a coffee.
With a bottle of wine, no bottled water and no desserts, our bill was 70.00 E.
Go - but sure. The 9th is hopping.
