The Blacklist

The Blacklist is a good show. It is and I'm sure it's going to do well for a long time, but net/net, it's a genre that I'm normally not that into. I've been pretty flexible since starting this blog because I want to watch what you guys watch.  The difference with this show and all the others in the genre is that his show has James Spader. His character is pretty compelling and could keep our interest for some time. Of course his list will go on and on until the ratings are gone. I'm betting Reddington's Agent Keane's dad or relative or something. This weeks episode featured 2 aging beauties did you notice? Now in addition to Jane Alexander, we had Isabella Rossellini guest star. She still looks good doesn't she?  In addition to Reddington and the next target on his list, Agent Keane also has to worry about her own husband and the box of money and passports she found under the floor. Must suck to not be able to trust anyone at all. So far this shows keeping my interest. It's all about Spader...he's awesome.

How I Met Your Mother

It was 52 hours before the wedding. No sign of Mom the entire episode which bummed me out. The ring bearer/ring bear battle between Robin & Barney continued as did their quest to find a spot for one last pre-wedding hook up. Only one problem...relatives everywhere.  Marshall was still in the yellow hummer with Daphne and Baby Marvin, Linus was still feeding Lily drinks and Ted was still hiding the fact that he was moving to Chicago.  Not much else really happened and the show wasn't crazy funny or anything.  The only big news was that the episode ended with Barney revealing to Ted that he saw him at the carousel with Robin. Roll credits. Bummer...was hoping every episode this season would be legen...wait for it...dary...not this one.

We Are Men

I really do love Jerry O'Connell, maybe because of his devotion to Howard Stern or maybe because of his role in Jerry McGuire (see trivia question), I don't know, but I felt compelled to try We Are Men...again.  I know I watched it during upfront season, a few months ago, but I couldn't remember if I liked the show or not, and then, I sawTony Shaloub laying in a pool and that was it.  CLICK...I can't stand Tony Shaloub. So done. No We Are Men for me.
Hello Ladies
I really wanted to like Hello Ladies. Prior to the other day when I posted that awesome lip sync battle on my FBFF, Jimmy Fallon's show, I had never heard of Stephen Merchant before. After the battle, I had high hopes for his show, Hello Ladies, but no go. While the show isn't specifically a British show, Stephen's British and I didn't find him or the show funny at all. So with the exception of Downton Abbey, my track record for shows with British characters in them is pretty poor.  I wish I understood what my problem is with all of them, there's definitely a theme here and not sure if I told you this, but my stepfather is British, so if anyone should get the humor...it should be ME! It's not...I've hated all but one.

The Voice

My son wanted to watch The Voice for a little while last night, so we checked in on it for a bit. It's a huge relief knowing that CeeLo's head tattoo is temporary. We tuned in when Malford Mulligan, who happened to be a black albino, was performing. The judges didn't turn around and I was bummed. Xtina looks amazing, but now she's not as much fun for me to talk about. That was it, just Malford and then I was out.

Revenge I read that when Revenge returned this season, it would be back to basics.  No more Initiative, no more nuttiness, just back to the Graysons, the Hamptons, the backstabbing, the scheming and back to the revenge plot the entire show was based on.  We already know that on 8/8, Emily/Amanda is going to get shot twice in her wedding gown, we just don't know yet, who shoots her.  So we have that to look forward to, although you heard it here first...I'm going with Aidan.  Jack's back at the bar with the baby, he knows that Emily is Amanda, but he hates her guts. He's in a pretty bad mood, but can you blame the guy? He thought his first wife was the love of his life, Amanda, but she wasn't and she's dead. He was super close with his bro Decklin, but he's dead too. The closest thing he had to a best friend was Nolan, and he's been in prison all Summer so things aren't going too well for the poor guy.  Plus he's a single dad in the Hampton's where it won't be easy to find a sitter.  Emily/Amanda and Daniel are engaged but Daniel needs a job since Grayson Global's gone. Victoria spent the entire Summer with her not so secret first born son Patrick, who doesn't seem to own a shirt. (Although with abs like that, didn't bother me one bit).  Nolan's out of jail and back in cahoots (I love when I can use cahoots in a sentence) with Emily/Amanda. Conrad's now the Governor of NY, but everyone thinks he's dying of Huntington's Disease even though it was Emily/Amanda who messed with him at her big party.  Charlotte's home from her Summer in Europe with a new look.  I personally love the bangs. Victoria and Emily/Amanda joined evil forces and got Ashley to fly away for good and it looks like Aidan's back and going to join evil forces with Victoria to take down Emily /Amanda. If they stick to the "Back to Basics" plan, Revenge could be good again. I hope so...we all used to love it, remember?

News & Information:

-Tattoo's are popular, and people are obviously into them. Spike TV just renewed Ink Master for a 13 episode 4th season and 26 new eps of Tattoo Nightmares. That's good news for when I need a Dave Navarro fix.  He got killed pretty quickly on Sons of Anarchy so if I need him, now I know where I can thankfully still find him.
-Homeland's Season 3 premiere was its highest rated to date. Keep in mind that it was up against the Breaking Bad finale and still delivered a respectable 1.9 million viewers, 2.6 million if you add in the repeat.  This is a 9% and 26% increase respectively vs. last year.  Homeland is Showtime's most time shifted series and attracts the most DVR +7 and On Demand viewing per week of any Showtime original series with 69% delayed viewing which BEGS the question: Why not find another night? I'm free on Friday nights with NOTHING to watch!
-Record breaking GREAT numbers for Breaking Bad's series finale Sunday night.  10.3 million viewers tuned in to see what happened to Jessie and Walt.  6.7 million of them were A18-49.  Final ratings aren't in yet but it appears that the finale was up 300% vs. last year. Talking Bad, the show immediately following the finale, delivered 4.4 million viewers with 2.9 million of them being A18-49.

-Lots of great ratings stories coming in every day with the new season upon us...here's another one. The Blacklist, starring James Spader just broke a record for the single largest L+3 increase of any broadcast program to date including not only series debuts and season premieres but all additional telecasts. The 9/23 premiere gained an additional 4.3 million viewers...thats a 35% increase...from 12.4 million to 16.9 million.  Bummer that those 4.3 million people probably didn't see any of our spots, but it's still a huge live audience, so I'm sticking with it.

-Another cool ratings story for Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  While the premiere initially delivered 12.1 million viewers, the repeat airing was seen by 4.7 million, 3.7 million time shifted the show on their DVR's and 1.6 million streamed the show online.  Which means that 22.1 million viewers have tuned in to check out the pilot.  WOW! Let's see how many of them all continue to tune in.

-Finally Facebook's opening it's books...sort of, they're going to start reporting likes and comments on TV shows which should continue to help with understanding audiences even that much better. All of the Facebook info currently included in Trendrr data was the public comments nothing else was available to Trendrr, I'm betting we'll see a lot of great info come out of this data. Thanks Facebook!
