The Best Travel Websites for 2012

By Livingthedreamrtw @livingdreamrtw
With 2012 in full swing, we have been on the hunt for some of the latest and greatest websites to hit the web for the long-term travel market. After a few months of searching, we have discovered three great travel sites that are just getting started and are sure to be on your must read list for many years to come.  Ironically, it seems like collaboration is the theme for this year, as the three websites we discovered all feature big names from the blogging community contributing to each.
The Best Travel Websites for 2012

The Taste of Travel - Our friend and fellow travel blogger Cailin O'Neil from Travel Yourself started her newest project, The Taste of Travel, which focuses on all things food related in the travel universe.  Between the good, the bad, and the ugly, all topics of international food are covered.  We love this site not just because we contribute to it, but because it increases our appetite for all international cuisines.  Check out the Photo Friday feature for images of some of the best foods from around the world and prepare to be hungry!

Side Note: Our friends over at Art of Backpacking and Twenty-Something Travel have just released a travel and food related iPhone app called Eat the World which shows you what the local foods are around the world and gives suggestions on where to get them.  A must have and we will have a full review coming very soon!

Too Many Adapters - The technology savvy traveler should definitely check out Too Many Adapters.  This new website is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date information on all things technology and is formatted especially for the long-term travel market.  Between reviews, tips, and many fun features (such as the current traveling only with a smart phone challenge), this site will become a great resource for all.  Who knows, you may even see contributions by us from time to time as well!

RTW Backpackers - I'd like to call the blog RTW Backpackers a super blog, not because of the great content (although that doesn't hurt!), but because of the seven great travel bloggers that are contributing to the new website. The one downside to being a travel blogger is that you cannot be everywhere at once, but when you get seven bloggers together on one site, the possibilities open up completely!  At the time of publishing this article, the bloggers are currently spread around the world in Bangkok (2), London (2), Australia (1), Ecuador (1),  and Wales (1).

There you have it! Our three newest favorite websites for 2012.  These 15 bloggers who have come together to make three awesome sites is just the beginning of some amazing things to come!  We highly encourage everyone to check them out!

Of course, while we encourage everyone to check out the world's newest travel blogs, we'd like to invite you to check out our first book, The Long-Term Traveler's Guide, which focuses on all aspects of planning your own long-term travel adventure!  The guide is available in print, Kindle and iPad reader formats, as well as a comprehensive digital package aimed at making planning your adventure a breeze!
