The 5 Worst Excuses for NOT Investing in Fleet Tracking

Posted on the 31 October 2011 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

You know the excuse, “Sorry I’d like to go, but I have to reorganize my sock drawer”? Well, these excuses for not investing in GPS fleet tracking fall into the same category as that one: BAD. Here we address the most common reasons we hear for not investing in a GPS fleet tracking system.

  1. I trust my guys
Well of course you do! But getting a fleet tracking system isn’t all about catching Bob sleeping on a park bench during working hours (see Bob Sleeps on Park Bench During Working Hours). There are so many more benefits to be had, such as reduced fuel costs, increased productivity, efficient routing, accurate billing, etc.

  2. I am too busy
No problem! Some fleet tracking systems allow you to have the reports you care about emailed to you however often you’d like. That way, once a week or once a month, you can glance over the reports to make sure there are no abnormalities.

  3. It’s my busy/slow season
If it’s your busy season, then it obviously makes sense to put your customers first and focus your time and energy on serving them. That being said, a GPS tracking system can be installed off peak hours with minimal disruption to your fleet. And when the software is cloud-based there’s no wasted time installing software. If you have an internet connection and a browser, you’re ready to go. If it’s your slow season, then what better time to get installed and up to speed on the software before the busy season starts?

  4. I will wait for it to be mandated
Companies aren’t installing fleet tracking systems simply because it is city or state mandated; they are installing them because they realize how effective it is for the company. Don’t wait for an external event to do the right thing for your business.

  5. We are a small company
No matter the size of your company, there is always money to be saved. We work with fleets from just five vehicles to 500, and all experience significant savings in fuel costs, labor costs, payroll, etc. Also, the smaller companies we work with see that with fleet tracking, they pick up anywhere between 1 and 5 more jobs per day per employee! There is always room to save and make more money, and a fleet tracking system can help do just that.
